Why John Choe?

Issues and Platform

"Most candidates will say what they plan to do, but John says what he is already doing. John will bring people together in the same way President Barack Obama did in his campaign."
-Donald Henton, Democratic Party Committeeman (May 25, 2009).

"John has a clear vision and a proven track record of service. He possesses all the qualities of a fine City Council Member…John has been active on every major issue affecting this community. We strongly support the candidacy of John Choe for City Council."
-Reverend Nicholas Tweed, Macedonia A.M.E. Church, Flushing, NY.

Safety: John wants to ensure that our families and neighborhoods are safe; that we provide the opportunities and support we all need to succeed and prosper as one community. He will work with law enforcement and social service agencies to protect the most vulnerable in our community; expand economic opportunities during these tough times; and, continue to support youth development and leadership programs that prepare our next generation to tackle the future challenges confronting our community.

Quality of life: This is a critical time for our community. As we continue to grow by leaps and bounds, we need to ensure that affordable housing, good schools, and our fair share of City services continue to be a priority. Without the additional classrooms, sewage infrastructure, transportation options, and health care required, we cannot meet the many challenges our community will face. We need someone who understands City government and knows how to secure the resources we need for our future.

Protecting our Legacy: From the very beginning, our community has taken a stand against intolerance and bigotry: as the birthplace of religious freedom (the 1657 Flushing Remonstrance), as a center of the abolitionist movement (a stop on the underground railroad), as the home of one of the first Quaker, Jewish, and African-American communities, we have become one of the most diverse districts in the nation. These are the American values that our men and women in uniform are fighting to protect and what John Choe hopes to uphold as the next Council Member representing the people of the 20th District in New York City.
